Abstract:

The studies as well as activities of reference have been quite unattended in our country. The reference training has been mostly self-taught. Nowadays the education consists mainly of database proficiency and use, but lacks a minimum of required erudition. This is achieved not only through the study of information resources but through a lot of hours of dedicated reading and natural curiosity to learn. Information reference services to the community are not only non-existent in Spain but what is more, they seem not to attract enough attention, as the dismissal of this work in this Congress may prove, even though this communication is of far more interest than others presented. I wonder if this is a result of a lack of generosity or a lack of understanding.
