Abstract:

English abstract The Encyclopedia of Astronomy and Astrophysics (EAA), published in four volumes at the end of 2000, was hailed as "one of the grandest reference works in science today" (Physics World). With 3000 articles for a total of 2.5 million words written by 800 renowned experts, this work has hardly any competitors, at least not in the field of astronomy. Now the new EAA is available on the Internet. French abstract Publiée sous forme de quatre volumes à la fin de l'an 2000, l'Encyclopedia of Astronomy and Astrophysics (EAA) fut saluée comme "one of the grandest reference works in science today" (Physics World). Il est certain qu'avec 3000 articles totalisant 2.5 millions de mots, rédigés par 800 experts renommés, cet ouvrage n'a guère de concurrence, tout au moins dans le domaine de l'astronomie. Mentionnons malgré tout le très beau volume, au titre similaire, et répondant à une philosophie analogue, The Astronomy and Astrophysics Encyclopedia1, édité par Stephen P. Maran en 1992, et qui commence à dater. Maintenat on peut acceder sur internet.
