Abstract:

The ever-increasing use of a multiplicity of formats to create, gather and store information has had a major impact on the range of materials found in libraries. Libraries, particularly those in the Western world, have not been immune to such developments. Of particular note has been the growth of non-print materials to support educational, informational and recreational needs. Nonprint or audiovisual materials are found in every type of library that exists in the West.
