Biblioteche oggi 2006 24 (1)1601 Abstract: The article illustrates the method used by the National Library of Florence for prioritising, in a way as objective as possible, the volumes in need of conservation treatments. To do so, a score to the various kinds of damage and then a database that allows to organize the deteriorated books in order of gravity of damage as been setup. Various criteria have been defined following various criteria: the stack where is coming from, the date and so on. This becomes useful to make well aimed interventions and to sort homogeneous lots of material to undergo conservation treatment. Moreover, the further decision, taken while putting in the data, whether to pull a book or not, allows an easier programming of interventions.
