Abstract:

Ellen Baird reports on chat rooms used in the American Indian community. American Indians have a unique set of cultural and social norms that still exist in electronic media as much as they do offline. This article examines chat rooms from the standpoint of Erving Goffman's perspective concerning on and offstage behavior.
