Aligning opportunities and technology, the challenge for libraries
Australian Library Journal 2002 51 (2)1187 Abstract: This paper assesses the changing nature of information and user needs in the modern electronic networked environment. Key changes to previous paradigms emerge through the simplicity of electronic publishing, the desktop delivery of information, and the ubiquity of user access. It is argued that library services must adapt to these changes and develop appropriate new services if they are to remain relevant. Specific examples of such services as developed by the State Library of Tasmania are described. In conclusion, it is argued that library workers themselves will have to adapt to new demands and retrain continually to keep pace with change.
