Abstract:

Creating a high quality search algorithm is more of an art than a science. It is a balancing act, and as any tightrope walker will tell you, it takes years to master. But when the art of ranking a query against a set of documents is virtually mastered, one has the foundation upon which to build a system that can do more than just search; it can turn information into knowledge. By effectively finding, categorizing, summarizing, and proactively routing information, it is possible to take total control of the ever-growing mountain of unstructured data in the digital world.
