Cultural questions, questions of society : looking on the Rhône-Alpes region

Abstract:

Public libraries are in front of large cultural and social needs which urge them, at the moment of choices, on developing new strategies, taking in consideration the sociological changes and alterations of the conditions of production and appropriation of konwledge. Relying on examples taken in Rhône-Alpes, this article intends to recall the lines of cogency which are the proper character of the part of the library as a public space : duty of memory, plurality, democratization of knowledge, intermixture of the social bond, approach to creation... Coping with the crisis of civilization, it asserts values that aim at giving a meaning to the world where we live.
