Abstract:

The lending department of the British Library - the British Library Document Supply Centre, BLDSC - is the most important document remote delivery service in the world : in 1995-96, 765 people have provided 95 % of the 4 113 586 documents asked by 18 392 customers from 143 countries. The BLDSC proposes, in return for payment, different services to the foreign customers, but has a special treatment for its customers from the private sector - to whom the documents can't be lent - and those from the public sector.
