The médiathèque, a new means of cultural development in rural environment ?

Abstract:

Towns with fewer than 15 000 inhabitants spread their areas of influence, through the development of << counties >>. Within them, the lack of cultural infrastructure is a reality that each town finds difficult to alter by lack of the funds destined to support an entire cultural infrastructure. Face to the increasing success of << médiathèques >> (multimedia libraries), would it be possible to imagine that they could be a possibility to satisfy this need ? It would mean to expand the concept of << médiathèque >> as a genuinely << new cultural centre >>, which would provide a complete cultural service, an remain within the range of local resources.
