Abstract:

The leaflet, the heir of an original literature taking root in the history of French society, is represented in its different historical aspects in the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Through the study of funds variously obtained, but of which fund-raising has almost always been the result of individual initiatives, the nature of these documents excluding generally legal deposit, the permanence of characters which founds the unity of these literature is obvious. Illegal or official, printed, illustrated, modestly roneoed or simply handwritten, the leaflet is always defined as an ephemera literature, a historical source without equivalent and above all without intermediary for its readers, people directly interested or historians living several centuries afterward.
